the in-home visit: what to expect
Not all In-Home Euthanasia is the Same
At Happy Endings In-Home Euthanasia, we perform euthanasia using the absolute most humane method available. Dr. Fixler has studied anesthetic protocols extensively to create the most peaceful and painless euthanasia experience.
A preliminary sedative/pain reliever will be administered to relieve any potential pain or anxiety. This sedative has been specially formulated not only to eliminate anxiety and pain but will also not sting upon injection as may other commonly used sedatives. This technique of administering a sedative/pain reliever first is especially nice for pets who have been suffering from chronic painful illness as it allows their last moments to be comfortable ones.
After this sedative takes effect (about 5 minutes), Dr. Fixler and his trained technician will place an intravenous catheter (an extremely important step that is commonly overlooked) to ensure that all medications enter the bloodstream directly where they work instantly.
It is only after the sedative has taken effect and all loved ones have had a chance to say goodbye that a final painless injection is administered through the catheter, bringing with it a peaceful final rest. From your pet's perspective, he/she will fall asleep just as he has every night before.
Below, is a wonderful video made publicly available on YouTube by Dr. Annie Forslund in Southern California. The video illustrates the immeasurable benefits of in-home euthanasia.
